Slim's Filesystem Dillemma
Slim has documented the vagaries of networked filesystem interoperability that we jointly discovered a few weeks ago. It's a telling and funny read. I concur that indeed the network filesystem needs to insulate people from the bizarre behavior that slim describes.Posted at: 13:08 | permalink

Home Heartbeat
Eaton announced Home Heartbeat this week at CES in Las Vegas.
While I don't work on the product, I can take some pride in the fact that I'm surrounded by the MAYA Design people who do. The fact that they've done great work, if not obvious from the press so far, should become apparent in the near future.

Specifix Joins The Custom Linux Fray
Specifix, a new company started by ex-redhat execs, has a repository-based system for building custom Linux distributions called Conary. The technology sounds novel, and arguably difficult to get right, but that's probably true of all the component approaches to custom Linux, such as Progeny Componentized Linux, or our Cobind DiY Linux Tools.Posted at: 23:58 | permalink
